Coker College Adds Women's Golf

by Christian Stryker, SID Coker College

Hartsville, S.C. – Coker College is pleased to announce the addition women’s golf as a varsity sport starting in the 2010-11 academic year. The newest members of the Cobra athletic program will begin competition in the fall of 2010.

“I am thrilled to make women’s golf the newest sport at Coker College,” said President Dr. Robert Wyatt. “We are very excited about what this means for our athletics program and the opportunity it presents for women who want to play collegiate golf.”

Current head men’s golf coach Tommy Baker will assume the coaching duties for the Lady Cobras golf team. Baker will also continue to serve as the head coach for the men’s team.

“I am ecstatic about establishing a women’s golf program at Coker,” said Baker. “I am looking forward to getting on the road and signing my first recruiting class, so we can continue the great golf tradition started by the men’s program.”

The addition of the women’s golf program will give Coker 13 NCAA Division II sports next year. Coker becomes the ninth Conference Carolinas member to add women’s golf.
