Cobra Spotlight- Chase Spivey, Baseball

The "Cobra Spotlight" is a weekly highlight of a student-athlete at Coker College. Each week we take a different athlete from a different sport and display some facets to get more familiar with them. This week we take a look at Chase Spivey, Sammy Song and T.J. Giczkowski, members of the baseball team.

Name: Chase Spivey

Sport: Baseball

Position: First base/DH

Hometown: San Jose, CA

Year: Senior

Major: Physical education and sport studies with a concentration in exercise science

Why did you choose Coker? Coker gave me the opportunity to continue playing baseball at the collegiate level.

What is your best memory at Coker (athletic related)? Definitely going to the Division II College World Series last year.

What is your best memory at Coker (non-athletic related)? Of all things, probably making a half-court shot at halftime of the men’s basketball game and getting nothing for it. Go Cobras!

Which athletic team would you play on at Coker other than your own? Maybe the men’s basketball team because of the half-court shot, but most likely the track team because of Schmotzer’s conditioning regimen.

Favorite class: Any John Jewell class

Favorite professor: Dr. John Jewell, of course

Plans after graduation: I plan on attending graduate school back home in California.

Favorite movie: 300 or Warrior

Favorite type of music: Reggae

Favorite food:  Anything at Golden Dragon

Favorite sports team: San Francisco Giants

Favorite color: Orange and black

Favorite TV show: The Walking Dead or Friday Night Lights

What is something people may not know about you?  I love playing music.

Do you have a nickname? If so, how did you get it? Spive, not sure how people came up with it but it has stuck.

One word that describes you:  Gargoylian (thanks to coach).
