HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Alex Roberts, Columbia S.C., has accepted an appointment as cheerleading and dance coach within the Coker College Department of Athletics, effective July 1.
“I am very excited and very grateful for this opportunity,” Roberts said. “Hopefully, we will be able to use both cheerleading and dance to get more involvement throughout the campus and be active in multiple sports. I have high hopes for us here at Coker. It’s going to be a great challenge, but I look forward to taking it on.”
Roberts has coached competitive cheerleading for 23 years. He’s coached ages 4 through 25 during his career. He has been a part-time instructor at Coker since 2010 while also serving as a director at Flying High Academy in Florence, S.C. He has coached 15 national title teams and won 10 state titles at American Cheer X-treme from 1998-2008.
“Coker is fortunate to have Alex heading up the cheer and dance program,” said Athletic Director Lynn Griffin. He has extensive competition experience and will continue to build our programs.”
Originally from Chester, S.C., Roberts graduated from Winthrop University in 1994 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
