Spotlight
The "Cobra Spotlight" is a weekly highlight of a student-athlete
at Coker College. Each week we take a different athlete from a
different sport and display some facets to get more familiar with

Senior men’s basketball forward, Sharod Williams, has been
selected as one of 16 finalists for the “State Farm Dark
Horse Dunker” competition. To watch the contest and vote,
visit https://www.facebook.com/collegeslam. Each of the finalists
is slotted against another Dark Horse Dunker candidate in the
bracket. Fans can access the bracket, watch video of each dunker
and vote for their favorite contestant. Fans can vote once per day.
Voting ends at 11:59 a.m. central time on Feb. 25. VOTE FOR

Women’s Basketball
- This week’s games:
- Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. (H) – Pfeiffer –
Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night
- Saturday at 2:00 p.m. (A) – King
- Last week’s games:
- Mount Olive (W) – 66-63
- Converse (W) – 80-51
- The Cobra women’s basketball team was perfect last week,
picking up two Conference Carolinas wins. Currently, Coker is tied
for fifth place in league standings with a record of 10-8. The
Cobras have four regular season games remaining, including two this
week against Pfeiffer and King.
Men’s Basketball
- This week’s games:
- Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. (H) – Pfeiffer –
Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night
- Saturday at 4:00 p.m. (A) – King
- The Coker men suffered a tough loss to Mount Olive last week
and are currently fifth in the Conference Carolinas standings with
a record of 9-7. This week the Cobras will look to complete the
season sweep of both Pfeiffer and King.
Men’s Volleyball
- This week’s matches:
- Friday at 1:00 p.m. (H) – Eastern Mennonite
- Friday at 5:00 p.m. (H) – Rust
- Last week’s matches:
- Mount Olive (L) – 3-0
- Limestone (L) – 3-1
- Washington Adventist (W) – 3-0
- The men’s volleyball team picked up a 3-0 shut out
victory over Washington Adventist last week. This week they will
look to continue their winning ways with a pair of home matches on
Friday against Eastern Mennonite and Rust.
Baseball
- This week’s games:
- Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. (H) – Claflin
- Friday at 2:00 p.m. (H) – Barton
- Saturday at 12:00 p.m. (H) – Barton (DH)
- Last week’s games:
- Newberry – Canceled
- Alderson-Broaddus – Canceled
- The baseball team was unable to play any of their scheduled
games last week due to rain and snow. This week they will host
their first conference games of the season, a three-game series
with Barton on Friday and Saturday.
Softball
- This week’s games:
- Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. (A) – Francis Marion (DH)
- Saturday at 1:00 p.m. (H) – Anderson (DH)
- Sunday at 1:00 p.m. (H) – Carson-Newman (DH)
- Last week’s games:
- St. Andrews – 10-1 (W)- 5 inn., 11-3 (W)- 6 inn.
- Belmont Abbey – Canceled
- Columbia - Canceled
- The softball team picked up two victories against St. Andrews
last week, but winter weather forced the Cobras to cancel their
weekend games. This week they will face local rival Francis Marion
and future South Atlantic Conference opponents Anderson and
Carson-Newman.
Men’s Golf
- Last week’s tournaments:
- Spring Kick-off Intercollegiate – 14 of 17
- The nationally ranked No. 10 Coker men’s golf team
finished 14th in their first tournament of the 2013
spring season. Christopher Fuga finished tied for 6th
overall at one-over-par (143) for the two-day event.
Men’s and Women’s Tennis
- This week’s matches:
- Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. (H) – Wingate
- Saturday at 2:00 p.m. (H) – North Greenville
- Sunday at 1:00 p.m. (H) – Johnson C. Smith
- Last week’s matches:
- Shaw – Canceled
- Citadel – Canceled
- Coastal Carolina – Canceled
- Like the baseball and softball teams, the tennis teams were
forced to cancel their matches last week due to rain and snow. This
week they will host three matches, including hosting regionally
ranked Wingate (men No. 8, women No. 4).
Men’s Lacrosse
- This week’s games:
- Monday at 5:00 p.m. (A) – LIU Post- Charlotte, N.C. @
Elon Park
- Saturday at 2:00 p.m. (H) – Belmont Abbey
- The men’s lacrosse team suffered a loss last week to
Catawba. This week they will take on LIU Post in Charlotte, N.C. at
Elon Park. They will also play their first Conference Carolinas
game of the season on Saturday against Belmont Abbey.
