Cobra Spotlight

The "Cobra Spotlight" is a weekly highlight of a student-athlete at Coker College. Each week we take a different athlete from a different sport and display some facets to get more familiar with them.   • This week’s matches:
    • NCAA Regional – Feb. 28 – Mar. 1 at Tiffin Univ.
  • Last week’s matches:
    • None
  • This week the Cobras head to Ohio to compete in the NCAA Regional Tournament. The top five finishers in each weight class advance to the NCAA National Championship March 14 in Cleveland, Ohio.

Women’s Basketball

  • This week’s games:
    • Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. (A) – Lenoir-Rhyne
    • Saturday at 2:00 p.m. (A) – Tusculum
  • Last week’s games:
    • Catawba (L) – 47-44
    • Wingate (L) – 54-52 OT
    • Anderson (L) – 65-48
  • The Cobras will travel to Lenoir-Rhyne and Tusculum this week for their final SAC regular season games of the season. Currently, the women are in eighth place in the league standings. The top eight teams advance to the Food Lion SAC Women’s Basketball Tournament, which begins on March 5.  

Men’s Basketball

  • This week’s games:
    • Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. (A) – Lenoir-Rhyne
    • Saturday at 4:00 p.m. (A) – Tusculum
  • Last week’s games:
    • Catawba (W) – 81-59
    • Wingate (W) – 75-59
    • Anderson (L) – 82-72
  • The Cobra men went 2-1 last week with wins over Catawba and Wingate. This week they hit the road for their final regular season SAC contests at Lenoir-Rhyne and Tusculum. Currently, the men are tied for sixth in the SAC standings. The top eight teams advance to the Food Lion SAC Men’s Basketball Tournament, which begins on March 5. 

Men’s Volleyball

  • This week’s matches:
    • Saturday at 2:30 p.m. (H) – Lees-McRae
    • Saturday at 6:30 p.m. (H) – Erskine
    • Sunday at 12:00 p.m. (H) – Sacred Heart
    • Sunday at 4:00 p.m. (H) – Pfeiffer
  • Last week’s matches:
    • Pfeiffer (L) – 3-1
    • Barton (L) – 3-0
    • Quincy (L) – 3-1
  • The men’s volleyball team will return home for the first time in nearly a month as they host four matches against Lees-McRae, Erskine, Sacred Heart and Pfeiffer on Saturday and Sunday.

    • Friday at 6:00 p.m. (A) – Anderson
    • Saturday at 12:00 p.m. (A) – Anderson (DH)
  • Last week’s games:
    • Barton – 6-2 (W)
    • Mars Hill – 6-4 (W), 6-2 (W), 10-2 (W)
  • Coker extended its winning streak to five games with four wins last week, including a three-game sweep of Mars Hill. This week the Cobras will hit teh road to Barton and Anderson.

Men’s & Women’s Tennis

  • This week’s matches:
    • Thursday at 2:00 p.m. (H) – Catawba
    • Saturday at 1:00 p.m. (A) – Wingate
    • Sunday at 1:00 p.m. (A) – USC Aiken
  • Last week’s matches:
    • Anderson – 9-0 (L) – women, 6-3 (W) – men
    • Converse - 5-4 (L) - women
  • The No. 35 ranked Cobra men picked up a 6-3 win over Anderson in their first SAC match of the season last week. This week the Cobras will host Catawba before hitting the road to Wingate and USC Aiken.

Men’s Golf

  • This week’s tournaments:
    • Pirate Invitational at Savannah, Ga. – Feb. 24-25
  • Last week’s tournaments:
    • None
  • After a week off, the Cobra men will hit the links in Savannah, Ga. for the Pirate Invitational hosted by Armstrong Atlantic. Last season the Pirate Invitational was rained out. In 2012 the Cobras placed ninth in the tournament.


  • This week’s games:
    • Friday at 1:00 p.m. (H) – Belmont Abbey (DH)
  • Last week’s games:
    • UNC Pembroke – 7-3 (L), 2-0 (W)
  • After splitting their non-conference double-header with UNC Pembroke last week, the Cobras will play host to Belmont Abbey in another non-conference double-header this week.

Men’s Lacrosse

  • This week’s games:
    • Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. (H) – Wingate
    • Saturday at 3:00 p.m. (H) – Mount Olive
  • Last week’s games:
    • Florida Tech – 18-10 (L)
  • The Coker men’s lacrosse team will host Wingate and Mount Olive this week. The game against Wingate will be the first SAC game of the season for the Cobras.  

Women’s Lacrosse

  • This week’s games:
    • Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. (A) – Chowan
    • Saturday at 1:00 p.m. (H) – Wingate
  • Last week’s games:
    • Erskine – 15-10 (L)
    • Young Harris – 15-5 (W)
  • The Coker women’s lacrosse team went 1-1 in their first week of play, with a 15-5 victory over Young Harris. This week the Cobras will hit the road to Chowan and then host Wingate in their first SAC game of the season.
