Spotlight
The "Cobra Spotlight" is a weekly highlight of a student-athlete
at Coker College. Each week we take a different athlete from a
different sport and display some facets to get more familiar with
them. This week we take a look at Jessi McKenzie, a member of the

FIRST
RESPONDERS NIGHT
The Coker Athletics department will host First Responders Night
during the men’s and women’s basketball games on
Wednesday (Feb. 6). All police, fire and emergency medical service
workers, along with their families are invited to attend the
basketball games for free. There will also be a special
presentation during halftime of each game for the first
responders.
Women’s Basketball
- This week’s games:
- Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. (H) – Barton- First Responders
Night
- Saturday at 2:00 p.m. (A) – North Greenville
- Last week’s games:
- Belmont Abbey (L) – 70-65
- Erskine (W) – 64-57
- The Cobra women’s basketball team improved to 8-6 in
Conference Carolinas play with a win over Erskine last week.
Currently, Coker is tied for fifth in the league standings. This
week they will host Barton College on Wednesday, followed by a trip
to North Greenville on Saturday.
Men’s Basketball
- This week’s games:
- Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. (H) – Barton- First Responders
Night
- Saturday at 4:00 p.m. (A) – North Greenville
- Last week’s games:
- Belmont Abbey (L) – 91-71
- Erskine (W) – 61-51
- The Coker men moved to 7-6 in conference play with a win over
Erskine last week. They are currently tied for sixth in the league
standings. This week they will host Barton on Wednesday and travel
to North Greenville on Saturday.
Men’s Volleyball
- This week’s matches:
- Thursday at 7:00 p.m. (H) – Pfeiffer –
CobraFANatics Night
- Last week’s matches:
- Mount Olive (L) – 3-0
- King (L) – 3-1
- Lees-McRae (L) – 3-0
- The Cobras will host their inaugural home match on Thursday
against Pfeiffer. The first 100 fans in attendance will receive
free t-shirts. There will also be a special ceremonial first serve
before the match starts.
Baseball
- This week’s games:
- Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. (H) – Newberry
- Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. (H) – St. Augustine’s
- Saturday at 1:00 p.m. (A) – Anderson (DH)
- Sunday at 1:00 p.m. (A) – Anderson
- Last week’s games:
- Chowan – 13-8 (W), 20-3 (W), 11-3 (W), 5-4 (L)
- The Cobra baseball team got the 2013 off to a good start
winning three of four games against Chowan, while also outscoring
them 48-19 over the four games. This week the Coker will play their
first two home games of the season on Tuesday and Wednesday, before
returning to the road for a three-game series at Anderson on
Saturday and Sunday.
Softball
- This week’s games:
- Saturday at 1:00 p.m. (A) – Wingate (DH)
- Sunday at 1:00 p.m. (H) – Newberry (DH)
- The softball team will begin their 2013 season this week. They
will first travel to Wingate University for a double-header on
Saturday, followed by their home opener on Sunday against Newberry.
The Cobras are the Conference Carolinas preseason No. 7 pick.
Women’s Golf
- Last week’s tournaments:
- Tusculum Kiawah Invitational – 17 of 18
- The women’s golf team opened their 2013 season with a
17th place finish at the Tusculum Kiawah
Invitational.
Men’s and Women’s Tennis
- This week’s matches:
- Friday at 3:00 p.m. (A) – Lander
- Saturday at 11:00 a.m. (A) – Benedict
- Sunday at 1:00 p.m. (H) – Francis Marion
- Last week’s matches:
- Anderson – 6-3 (W) – men, 9-0 (L) - women
- The men’s tennis team picked up a huge win over
regionally ranked Anderson University. This week the Cobras will
take the court against three tough teams, including regionally
ranked Lander and Francis Marion.
Men’s Lacrosse
- This week’s games:
- Friday at 5:00 p.m. (A) – Shorter
- The men’s lacrosse team will face-off against Shorter
University in their first game of 2013 on the road this week. The
Cobras opened the 2012 season with a 14-7 win over Shorter.
