Working within the Office of Marketing & Communications as manager of college and athletic media relations, Chris Dougherty joined Coker’s team in 2011. He is responsible for all media relations relating to the Cobras’ 19 NCAA Division II athletic teams.
Dougherty serves as the liaison between the athletics department and the media, handling all media requests for Coker athletics. In addition, he develops news and feature stories, directs video projects, assists with social media and the Coker Cobras’ website, and provides support between the athletics and marketing departments.
Prior to his position as manager of college and athletic media relations, which began in July 2013, Dougherty served as manager of athletics media relations and marketing from Jan. 2012-July 2013. Before that, he was content manager and writer for Coker.
Dougherty served as sports editor for the Standard Journal newspaper in Milton, Pa., from 2009-11, where he wrote game reports, features and columns for the six-day-a-week paper and was responsible for, among other things, making weekly assignments for staff writers, editing stories and photos, layout, online contests and budgeting.
Dougherty holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. While at IUP, he wrote for the student newspaper and was featured on the student radio station.
Originally from Allentown, Pa., Dougherty resides in Florence, S.C.
