In the top of the 12th inning, King scored the go-ahead run on a throwing error by Queens University of Charlotte and held on for the 4-3 win.
King shortstop Christina Melcher went 2-for-5, with two runs driven in. Left fielder Aubree Hutt also drove in two. Hannah Light started in the circle for the Tornado and went all 12 innings. Light scattered three runs on nine hits, while striking out six hitters.
Queens right fielder Megan Lathbury and second baseman Amanda Meade both went 2-for-5, with a run batted in. Designated player Kaitlyn Cheek also drove home a run. Chantel Dodge pitched the entire game for the Royals. Dodge allowed four runs (two earned) on nine hits, while striking out nine Tornado hitters.
King is now 1-0 in the conference tournament, while Queens falls to 0-1. King will play at 4 p.m. against the winner of Mt. Olive versus Coker. Queens will play the loser of Belmont Abbey versus North Greenville at p.m.
