Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne College Baseball Team (5-3) opened the 2005 home portion of its schedule with a doubleheader sweep of Coker (2-4), 18-5 and 10-4, Saturday afternoon at Bears Field.

 

Game Two - Lenoir-Rhyne 12, Coker 5 (seven innings)

L-R once again scored early and often, leading 7-0 after four innings, and a five-run sixth inning propelled the Bears to the win in the nightcap.

 

After the Cobras cut the margin to 7-4 on a two run home run by Ben Davidson (Mount Pleasant, S.C.), Lenoir-Rhyne responded with five runs in the bottom of the sixth including Verdinek's two-run single that put the game out of reach.

 

Verdinek finished with a pair of hits and two runs batted and sophomore first baseman Jordan Ackley (Walnut Cove, N.C./South Stokes HS) went three-for-three with two RBI to lead Lenoir-Rhyne's 15-hit attack.

 

Freshman Jesse Jordan (Englewood, Fla./Lemon Bay) pitched six innings of four-run baseball to move to 2-0 on the year while Craig Zumwinkel (Ellisville, Mo.) suffered the loss for the Cobras.  The two teams will wrap up the three-game weekend series with on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Bears Field.
