Coker looked to have the game in hand as they led 8-4 going into the eighth inning, but then things started to unravel. The Trojans scored three runs off five hits and a Coker error to bring them within one. Then in the ninth, Coker reliever Seth Weinberg failed to get an out while giving up three runs, to give the Trojans the lead.
The Cobras did try to mount a come back as Steven Dill hit a RBI double and Steven Evans later plated dill with a ground out to second. Unfortunately for the Cobras, P.J. Scarborough was up to the challenge of shutting down the Cobras, as he ended the game with a strike out.
Weinberg (2-4) took the loss for Coker, allowing three runs in the top of the ninth, while Scarborogh earned the win, throwing two solid innings for the Trojans, allowing two runs on just one hit, while striking out three.
At the plate for Coker, Evans was 2-for-5 with a home run, a triple and four RBIs, while Ben Davidson was 3-for-5 with an RBI. Nic Fletcher also finished 2-for-5 with a double and Brian Nally and Willie LoVerde each had a triple for the Cobras.
Coker completes the 2006 season on Wednesday, as they travel to USC-Upstate for a game at Anderson’s next game is Monday, as they face rival Erskine at 6:00 p.m.
