Fort Myers, FL- In the Coker Baseball Team’s opening games at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, FL, the Cobras came up empty handed, losing a pair of contests to Winona State out of Minnesota. The Cobras lost game one 3-2, and then lost game two 9-1, the losses drop Coker to 5-15 on the season.


In the first game, Brad Boob (0-4) took the loss, going seven innings, allowing three runs, while striking out eight.


Winona State’s Bryan Ruff (1-0) earned the win, while Ben Barrone (1) earned the save.


The leading hitters for Coker were Ty Medlin, Julio Gomez and Ryan Schaeffer. Medlin was 1-for-4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases, while Gomez and Schaeffer were each 1-for-2.


Game two saw Jayson Clarke (1-4) take the loss, allowing five runs in four innings of work, with two strike outs, while Winona State’s Don Erdall (1-0) earned the win.


Leading the offense in game two, were Gomez and Schaeffer again, with each going 1-for-3 with a stolen base, while Steven Evans was 1-for-2 with a stolen base.


Coker continues there spring break trip in Fort Myers as they taken on Saginaw Valley State University Monday at 12:00 p.m.
