Hartsville, SC- The Cobra Baseball Team evened their record at 4-4 on Tuesday afternoon as they defeated the Panthers of Claflin University 11-2. The game was called in the seventh inning due to rain, with Claflin at the plate with just one out.
The Cobras got the runs going early and often, scoring a run in the first, four in the second, three in the third, two in the fourth and one in the sixth. Claflin plated a run in the third and one in the seventh, before the rain came.
The Panthers out hit the Cobras 10-9, but the Claflin pitchers allowed eight walks to the Cobras two.
Coker pitcher Brad Boob (2-2) earned the win going three innings, allowing one run on five hits, with a strike out.
Moses Wagner took the loss for Claflin, allowing eight runs on six hits with four walks in three innings of work.
Leading the Cobras at the plate were Bryant Smith, Julio Gomez and Scott Amann. Smith was 2-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and run scored, while Gomez was 1-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored, and Amann was 2-for-4 with a run scored. The Cobras had eight stolen bases on the day, with Kyle Walker getting three of the eight.
For Claflin, Eric Jordan was 3-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored and Rafael Outler was 2-for-4.
Coker returns to the diamond, on Wednesday, as they host Newberry College at 2:00 p.m.
