HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker baseball team’s defensive woes continued on Tuesday as the Cobras lost 10-4 to the Newberry College Wolves, while committing six defensive errors in the game. This marks the second straight game where error s have played a major role in Coker’s loss.

The game was scoreless until the Wolves plated three runs on the fifth inning. Newberry then proceeded to score at least a run over the next four innings. Coker answered with three runs in the eighth and another run in the ninth, but they were unable to make up the remaining six run deficit.

Chauncey Mattei (1-1) picked up the win scattering two hits over seven scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Dan Meyer (Seaford, N.Y.) (0-1) took the loss for the Cobras. He went 4.2 innings allowing three runs on four hits with four strikeouts.

Hunter Cox was the Wolves leading hitter with three hits including a double and three RBIS, while Evan Darr drove in four runs and had a double and Chas Goodwin also had a double and two RBIs.

Nick Fuoco (Palm Bay, Fla.) drove in two of Coker’s runs, while Jake Frazier (Indian Harbor Beach, Fla.) had a double and an RBI.

Coker will be back on the diamond on Wednesday when they host Paine College in a non-conference game at 2:00 p.m.
