Coker Ready for First Home Games of the Year
The Coker baseball team will host Newberry on Tuesday (Feb. 5) and St. Augustine's on Wednesday (Feb. 6) in their first two home games of the season.
HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker baseball team will open the home portion of its 2013 schedule this week when it plays host to the Wolves of Newberry College on Tuesday (Feb. 5) at 3 p.m. and the Falcons of St. Augustine's University on Wednesday (Feb. 6) at 2 p.m. Live coverage of both games will be available online at www.cokercobras.com.
The Cobras are coming off a 3-1 series victory against Chowan University. Coker out scored the Chowan 48-19 over four games. Dan Meyer (1-0), Andrew Goot (1-0) and Hunter Ressler (1-0) each earned victories on the mound for Coker, while Fico Kondla and Frank Suarez led the Cobra offense. Kondla batted .600 over the four games with seven RBIs, a double and six runs scored. Suarez drove in nine runs, with a home run, a double and a solid .357 batting average.
Newberry (4-0) earned a four-game sweep of West Alabama to start its season. Albert Baur is the leading hitter, batting .526 with two doubles and a triple. Jonathan Rosenberger (1-0) leads the pitching staff with a 0.00 ERA, five strikeouts in six innings of work.
St. Augustine's (2-1) enters the game after defeating Morehouse College and splitting with Clark Atlanta. The Falcons defeated Morehouse 25-2. They beat Clark Atlanta 16-2, but also lost 10-1.
