HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker College's Tyler Witzel has been named the Conference Carolinas Pitcher of the Week, the league announced today.
Witzel helped lead the Cobras to a perfect 3-0 week, with one win over Claflin University and a pair of victories over Barton College. He earned the victory in all three matchups, tossing shutout ball in three relief appearances. For the week Witzel pitched 4 1-3 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out two.
In seven appearances this season, Witzel has a 3-0 record with a 2.70 ERA over 13 1-3 innings. He has not allowed a run in four straight appearances.
Witzel, a senior, is a physical education and sport studies major with a physical fitness programming concentration. He is originally from Melbourne, Fla., and is the son of Raymond and Teri Witzel.
Coker is fresh off a three-game sweep of Barton College to open conference play. Overall, the Cobras are 10-3. They return to the diamond Wednesday for a home game with UNC Pembroke.
