HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The regionally ranked No. 10 Coker baseball team will host the nationally ranked No. 24 Braves of UNC Pembroke in a non-conference game on Wednesday (Feb. 27). Live stats for the game will be available at www.cokercobras.com.
The Cobras (10-3, 3-0 Conf. Carolinas) are coming off a three-game sweep of Conference Carolinas rival Barton College; winning three one-run ball games (7-6, 3-2 & 5-4). Pitching and timely hitting were the keys to Coker's success against Barton. The Cobras' bullpen shutdown Barton, allowing just one run on one hit in 8.2 innings of relief work, while the hitters got the job done at the plate, driving in 11 runs and batting .287 as a team over the three games.
UNCP (11-3, 3-3 PBC) is coming off a tough three-game set with Montevallo. The Braves lost two of three to the Falcons; both losses were by one-run (6-5 & 7-6). Junior Brett Huffman is the leading hitter for the Braves with five doubles, two home runs, 12 RBIs and a .439 batting average.
Last season the Cobras took two of three from the Braves, winning once at home and once on the road.
First pitch for Wednesday game is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Coker's Tom J. New Field.
