HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Four Cobras scored ten or more points, including a game high 27 points by senior Tom Wright (Sydney, Australia) as the Coker men’s basketball team returned to the hardwood for their first game of 2011 on Monday night. The Cobras defeated the Knights of St. Andrews Presbyterian College in the game, 88-73 in the Conference Carolinas game.

The win snaps a two game skid for the Cobras, but also snaps a three game winning streak for the Knights.

St. Andrews came out the gates strong, taking control of the majority of the first half. The Knights lead by as much as nine points through the first 13:30 of the game. But then with 6:33 remaining senior Ryan Aijan (Santa Barbara, Cal.) knocked down a three-pointer to tie the game 30-30 and the Cobras never looked back. a 16-0 run to end the first half gave Coker a comfortable 46-30 lead at the half.

The Cobras extended the lead to as much as 20 in the second half, but St. Andrews was not ready to throw the towel in yet. Thanks to fouls by the Cobras and clutch free throw shooting, the Knights were able to cut the lead to 10 with just four minutes left, but that would be as close as they would get as Coker held on for the 88-73 victory.

Delonte Doles (Roswell, Ga.) added 16 points for the Cobras, while Liam Kyle (Cleveland, Ohio) had 13 points and five rebounds and Aijan finished the night with 10 points and five rebounds.

Marvin Jackson (Gloucester, Va.) led the Knights with 26 points and five rebounds, while Barry Tucker (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 12 points and eight rebounds and Aaron Christian (New Bedford, Mass.) had 10 points.

Coker will return to action on Thursday, as they host the Limestone College Saints at 7:30 p.m., while St. Andrews’ next opponent will be Belmont Abbey College. The Knights host the Crusaders at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
