White Lake, NC - Despite extremely windy conditions, the 5th annual Carolina Sands Intercollegiate hosted by UNC Pembroke was completed on Saturday and Sunday in White Lake, NC. Thirteen colleges and universities competed in the 36-hole event, with Coker College taking home top team honors with a two-day total of 619 (+43). Wingate's Lorcan Morris and St. Andrews' Alvin Yeung tied with each carding a two-round total of 150. Morris took home medalist honors after winning a one-hole playoff. Host UNC Pembroke finished fourth overall at 629 (+53), while the Braves' Greg Dobbins took home all-tournament honors
after finishing fourth in individual play with rounds of 79 and 74.
Belmont-Abbey College led after one round with a team score of 309 on Saturday. Coker, who was third in the standings entering the final round, shot a 306 on Sunday to overtake the Crusaders and grab first-place honors. Belmont-Abbey managed a runner-up finish at 625 (+49), while Catawba College finished third, just one stroke back of BAC. UNCP and St. Andrews rounded out the top five.
In individual play, Morris turned in a round of 74 on Sunday, while Yeung shot a 76. Morris birdied the first playoff hole to take home the hardware. The two were joined on the all-tournament team by Coker's Johary Raveloarison (+8) and Louis-Pierre Godin (+10), who finished around UNCP's Dobbins in third and fifth, respectively.
Newberry College’s Justin Chrisley recorded the low round of the tournament with a one-under 71 on Saturday.
Rounding out the scoring for Coker were Benoit Gordon and Blaine Rogers in 14th place with an eleven over par score. Vincent Dumauchel shot a 163 to tie for 39th.
