Hartsville, S.C. – Coker College’s Chris Marsh has qualified for the 2009 U.S. Amateur Championship August 24-30 at the Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.

Marsh, a senior golfer for the Cobras, shot 67-71 at the Columbia Country Club in Blythewood, S.C. in the sectional qualifying, placing him fifth overall and making him the first alternate. After Brian Harman was named to the 2009 Walker Cup Team, Marsh slid into his spot and became one of the 312 golfers in the field.

“This is a great honor for Chris,” said Coker Golf Coach Tommy Baker. “He is very a very hard worker and his played some extremely good golf over the past year. I am very excited for him and I hope this is a great experience for him.”

Marsh is the reigning Conference Carolinas Golfer of the Year. He had a 72.2 stroke average last year in 10 events, including firing a course record, 64, at the Cougar Course on Kiawah Island at the Kiawah Island Invitational.
