Coker Men's Tennis Hits Regional Ranking for First Time

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College men's tennis team reached new heights today when it was ranked regionally by the NCAA. The Cobras came in at No. 7 in the Southeast region for the first poll of the year. It is the first time in school history a Coker College tennis team has earned any ranking from the NCAA.

"This is exciting for all of us," head tennis coach Tom Simpson said. "To do this with such a young team is pretty amazing. We're doing great things for Coker, and we hope to continue that trend. I'm very proud of this team."

Coker is currently 12-4 overall and 7-0 in Conference Carolinas play. The Cobras are tied for first place in the conference with Mount Olive College. They've won 10 of their last 12 matches overall, losing just 19 sets in those contests.

The men's tennis team is led by freshman Andre Staab, who has an 11-5 singles record and is ranked No. 12 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association in the Southeast for Division II. Junior James Corfield, who sports a 13-2 record, and freshmen William Marrafao (11-4), Martin Moncayo (11-3) and Tom Sizeland (12-3) have also been big contributors.

Coker returns to the courts Saturday at Erskine College.
