Rust College Inches Past Coker In 3-2 Match

Freshman Luke Hansen had the match leading 15-kills, as the Coker men's volleyball team dropped their season opener 3-2 to Rust College in Pfeiffer's Lance Johnson Memorial Volleyball Tournament.

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Freshman Luke Hansen had the match leading 15-kills, as the Coker men's volleyball team dropped their season opener 3-2 to Rust College in Pfeiffer's Lance Johnson Memorial Volleyball Tournament.

Coker lost a close first set 25-23, but then recaptured sets two and three with a 25-21, and 25-18 win.  Rust College however, won the fourth set 25-18 to force Coker into the fifth and final set.  Both teams battled, but Rust was able to take the set and match with a 15-13 win. 

Along with Hansen, Jared Geizer tallied up double-digit kills with 12 of his own.  Cooper Lyon led the team with eight digs, followed by Hansen (7), Geizer (6), and Ricardo Ferrer (6).  Liam Flaherty and Christopher Gbelay each had two blocks.

Coker's last game in the Lance Johnson Memorial Volleyball Tournament will be an exhibition match against Alderson-Broadus.  The Cobras will then hit the road to face Mount Olive in a Conference Carolinas competition on Tuesday (Jan. 29).  The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
