Coker Wrestling Drops Match to No. 4 Newberry

NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Coker wrestling team opened 2014 with a tough 53-0 loss to nationally ranked No. 4 Newberry College on Saturday (Jan. 4).

In the closest match of the dual, Austin Akins was narrowly defeated by Robert Wade, 7-4, in the 285-pound division.

The loss was only the second dual match loss of the year for the Cobras. They now sport a 4-2 record in dual matches this season.

The Cobras will return to action on Saturday (Jan. 11) for a tri-match at home against Brewton Parker College and King University. Coker will take on Brewton Parker at 10 a.m., followed by a match versus King at 1 p.m.
