DUE WEST— Freshman Aisha Reid (Columbia, SC) scored Erskine’s first two goals, assisted the next three, and scored the final one, as the Fleet cruised past Coker College, 6-1 , in women’s soccer action at Huggins Field on Saturday afternoon.
Reid wasted no time getting started. She scored 2:24into the contest on an assist from Jessica Henry (Duncan, SC). Reid scored unassisted at 34:14 to put the Fleet up 2-0. Henry scored seven minutes later on Reid’s 1st assist of the match. Freshman Samantha Saxon (Clarksville, TN) scored Erskine’s final goal of the 1st half at 6:02on a pass from Reid.
Coker made a dent in the Fleet’s 4-0 lead early into the 2nd half. Freshman Kathryn Friedmann (41:49) rifled a shot past Erskine goalie Katy Jackson (Lexington, SC), cutting the lead to 4-1. Senior Julie Jefferson (Lexington, SC) ended any suspense at 39:06 with her first goal of the season after taking yet another Reid pass in the scoring area. Reid finished off the scoring at 24:32 when she finished off a beautiful cross from junior Jamie Locke (Brentwood, TN). The goals brought Reid's scoring total to 18 on the season.
Erskine improved to 8-8-1on the season and 5-3 in the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference (CVAC) after picking up their 4th straight victory. Coker dropped to 6-9 and 2-6 in the CVAC. The Fleet returns to action on Tuesday afternoon when they host CVACfoe PfeifferUniversity. Match time is 5:00 PM.
