MOUNT OLIVE, N.C.- Lyndsay Brennan tallied two goals and three assists and Marie Richters scored a hat trick as the Trojans win 7-0 in Conference Carolinas women’s soccer Wednesday afternoon at Amon Field. Alyecia Higgins and Melissa Shepherd both had two assists and Nia Celata had one too.
Mount Olive (5-10, 3-4) jumped out to an early lead on Coker (3-9, 2-5) when Brennan hooked up with Jackie Jimenez for a goal in the first two minutes. Brennan played the ball perfectly from midfield to a cutting Jimenez who scored from 15 yards out. The next two goals came from Richters via Brennan in the next 20 minutes. Brennan got her goal one minute after Richters second on a pass from Higgins from 30 yards out. Before the first half ended Melissa Shepherd played a ball out from inside the Mount Olive third that reached Celata in the Coker third and found its way to Pattie Adkins, who scored it from 10 yards out. The Trojans went up 5-0 at halftime.
Lyndsey McIntyre shared the match with Jenn Sastre. Both keepers recorded one save in 45 mintues a piece. Mount Olive outshot Coker 20-3, holding the Cobras to zero shots in the second half.
With her two goals and three assists, Brennan surpasses Emily Escolas to become fourth in career assists, surpasses April Jacobs to become second in career points and becomes the second player in school history with at least 40 goals.
Coker keeper Chelsea Beetch recorded 8 saves in 90 minutes played.
Mount Olive returns to action Saturday when the Trojans host Conference Carolinas member Converse at Amon Field. Match time is 7 p.m. Coker will also take to the field on Saturday, as they travel to Anderson at 1 p.m.
