Hartsville, SC- The Lady Cobras today had their third match for the weekend today against Mount Olive College. The Cobras began the day very strongly with some great doubles play. Rachel Lemar and Jill Smith got the first doubles win for the Cobras as they beat Barone and Jones 8-2. Both remaining doubles pairs for Coker bought in victories 8-3 for the lady Cobras. This placed the lady Cobras in a great position going 3-0 up going into the singles.


Cassidy Spencer played some great tennis from the baseline to edge the lady Cobras closer to victory. Spencer beat Jones comfortably 6-1, 6-4.

The match of the day came at number two singles for the Cobras where Rachel Lemar was taking on Kay Barone. The match saw some long rallies and high quality points. Barone edged past Lemar in the first set to take it seven five. Lemar didn’t give up and continued to attack the net to take the second set 6-4. The third set was dominated by Lemar as she hit solid approach shots and crisp volleys to take the set 6-1. This sealed the match for the Cobras.


The victory moves the Cobras to 6-5 on the season and 2-2 in conference play. The next match for the Cobras comes on Wednesday, against Catawba at 2:30 p.m.
