Sumter, SC- The Lady Cobra tennis tennis fell in the opening round of the Conference Carolinas tournament on Friday morning at the Palmetto Tennis Center is Sumter, SC to the No. 1 seed Erskine College by a 5-0 score.


In doubles play, Erskine rolled comfortably at the No. 2 and 3 positions and posted a win at the No. 1 position to take a 3-0 heading into singles play.

In singles the FLying Fleet only neeed two wins to secure the victory over the lady Cobras and they got those wins from Britton Brgnon at No. 2 and Kacie Rollins at the No. 3 Position. All other matches were stopped and Erskine came away with the 5-0 win.

In match number two of the day, the Lady Cobras fell to the Trojans of Mount Olive College 6-3.

In doubles, the Lady Cobras picked up one point as Jill Smith (Concord, NC) and Rachel Lemar (London, England) dominated at the No. 1 position winning 8-1. Cassidy Spencer (Wilkesboro, NC) and Lindsay Crighton (Florence, SC) lost a tight match at the No. 3 position by a score of 9-8 falling in the tiebreaker (7-5).

In singles, the Lady Cobras needed four wins to pick up the victory but were only able to pick up two as No. 1 Lemar rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 win, as did Ashley Pace (Clinton, SC) winning 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 5 position. Spencer lost in a heartbreaker at the No. 3 spot losing in a match tiebreaker 3-6, 6-0, (10-8).

The lady Cobras will finish off the conference tournament in the morning against Anderson University. The match is for 7th and 8th place. Anderson, the No. 3 seed, fell to this matchup after losing in the opening round to Lees McRae, and then fell to Barton College in the first round of consolation. Match time is slated for 9A.M. at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, SC.
