Hartsville, SC- In front of one of the biggest crowd’s in Coker College Volleyball history, the Cobras downed the Pfeiffer Falcons 3-0 in a Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference volleyball match Friday night. Coker (4-6, 3-0 CVAC) and Pfeiffer (5-5, 1-2 CVAC) played three hard fought games, but in the end Coker came out on top 30-23, 30-24 and 31-29.


Game one looked to be in Coker’s hands early as the Cobras were ahead by as much as 11 points, but the falcons battled back to within two at 26-24. Unfortunately for the Falcons that would be as close as the Cobras would allow them to get, getting four straight points and taking game one.


In game two Pfeiffer came out with their guns blazing, scoring four unanswered points to begin the game. Coker rebounded and eventually took the lead at 6-5 and never looked back defeating the Falcons 30-23.


The third and final game, same Pfeiffer again coming out of the gates hard and taking an early lead over the Cobras. Down 21-11, Coker mounted an outrageous come back and eventually tied the game at 25. For there on it was a none stop back and forth grudge match, with neither side giving way to the other. In the end the Cobras prevailed and won the game 31-29 and took home the match.


Leading the way for Coker were Margaret Madison and Lauren Larsen, each had 10 kills in the match, while Madison added three blocks to the Cobra defense. Megan Haupt netted nine kills and 18 digs in the victory, while Tara Nelson had 37 assists and three aces. Kelsey Carlson gave Coker 11 digs and six aces in the match.


As for Pfeiffer, Brittany Dickens and Victoria Parrish each had eight kills and Dickens had three aces. Brittany Poole was the Falcons dig leader with 14, while Morgan Liebert had 23 assists.


Coker will travel to Anderson University on Sunday, September 10, at 2:00 p.m. for their next CVAC match, while Pfeiffer will host Queen’s University Tuesday, September 12, at 7:00 p.m.
