Cobras Fall to Bulldogs in SAC Opener

WINGATE, N.C.- The Coker College women's volleyball team faced a tough road test against Wingate to open up conference play. While the team fought hard, the Cobras fell 3-0 in straight sets.

In the first set, the Cobras were tracking on all cylinders. The Navy and Gold kept the score tied up most of the game and it was neck-and-neck until the end of the set. The Cobras caused many continuations for the Bulldogs and kept their hands high to contest the attacks.

Taylor du Bray's two kills, and one kill from both Madison Bingle and Chloe Attram sparked the second set. Two more points came from Wingate service errors.

Solo kills from Alexis Berles and Christen Bragg, along with four service errors from the Bulldogs accounted for most of the Cobras points in the third and final set.

Berles finished with a team high six kills and accumulated a hitting percentage of .500. Bragg also made significant contributions to the Cobras offensive attack, dishing out 18 assists on the night. In addition, du Bray and Missy Reid both laid down one service ace each. On the defensive side, Bingle gathered 10 digs, while Attram and Berles tallied two total blocks apiece. The Cobras were perfect in the serving category by having no service errors, while Wingate had seven.

The Cobras will be back in action when they travel to Due West, S.C. to take on the Flying Fleet of Erskine College on Friday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. in game one of the Fleet Classic Tournament.
