In the first game of the double-header Coker came out strong scoring three runs in the first and two in the second, taking an early 5-1 lead over the Bears. The Cobras would add four runs in the fourth giving them a commanding 9-1 lead. However the Bears did try to make a come back in the top of the seventh scoring two runs off Coker reliever Larry Morris.
Coker’s Brad Boob (1-0) picked up the win, allowing only four hits and one run in six innings pitched. Lenior-Rhyne’s Andrew Cooper took the loss, giving up nine hits and seven runs in three and a third innings pitched.
The Cobra offense was led by senior Nic Fletcher going 2-for-3, with three RBIs, a double and a run scored, while fellow senior Eric Losten went 2-for-3, with an RBI, a double and three runs scored. Seth Weinberg and Ryan Schaeffer each had two hits for the Cobras as well, Weinberg was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Schaeffer was 2-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored.
For the Bears John Hass was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Dallas Tarleton went 1-for-2 with an RBI.
In the second game, Coker again came out with guns blazing scoring four runs off two hits and an error. In the third the Cobras added four more runs, giving them an 8-0 lead. The Bears made another last ditch effort to get back into the game, scoring three runs in the last inning.
Coker’s starter Jayson Clarke (1-1) earned the win throwing six scoreless innings, only giving up four hits, while striking out two and walking only two. Lenoir-Rhyne pitcher Jason Keller took the loss giving up five runs on three hits, with three walks and three strikeouts.
Coker’s Fletcher added to his outstanding day with another 2-for-3 effort with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Seth Weinberg was 1-for-4.
The Bears John Pugh finished 2-for-4 with a two run triple and a run scored. Billy Doyle went 2-for-2 with a run scored for Lenoir-Rhyne.
