Hartsville, SC- The Pfeiffer Falcons took the first two games of the Coker-Pfeiffer CVAC baseball series on Saturday afternoon with scores of 9-8 and 9-5. With the loses the Cobras drop to 4-11 overall and 2-3 in the CVAC, while Pfeiffer improves to 8-6 overall and 4-1 in the CVAC.


Game One


In game one Pfeiffer’s Bryan Braxton stole the show, with two monster home runs, three RBIs and three runs scored. His homer in the seventh tied the game at 2-2 and started a four run inning for the Falcons, while his two run homer in the ninth gave Pfeiffer the cushion they needed for the 9-8 win.


Brad Boob (0-3) took the loss for Coker, going 7 2/3 innings, allowing seven runs on 11 hits with four strikeouts.


Pfeiffer’s Chris Russell (2-0) earned the win coming on in relief, throwing three innings, allowing two runs on six hits.


Leading the Coker offense was Eric Losten who was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, four RBIs and a run scored. Ben Davidson was 2-for-4 with a double, while Brian Nally was 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Julio Gomez collected two hits in the game, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.


Besides Braxton, Pfeiffer’s other leading hitters were, Kyle Pugh, 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, while Ryan Brown was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Daniel Brown was 2-for-5 with a triple and Justin Ridenhour was 2-for-4 with a triple, with each scoring a run.


Game Two


Game two saw Coker break out early with two runs from Ryan Schaeffer and Gomez in the first. The Falcons answered with a run of their own in the second, making it 2-1, before Pfeiffer added two more runs in the fourth for a 3-2 lead.


The Falcons plated two more runs in the sixth, before Coker tied the game with three runs on three hits from Brian Johanson, Trey Lynch, and Losten. Unfortunately, for Coker that would be a close as they would come, as Pfeiffer tacked on four runs on five hits in the seventh to seal a 9-5 victory.


Mikael Owens (0-1) took the loss, allowing three runs on three hits in a third of an inning pitched.


Tim Peele (1-1) earned the victory for Pfeiffer, coming on in the sixth allowing one run on two hits.


Gomez, Losten, Lynch and Anthony Chester each collected two hits for the Cobras, with Gomez and Losten each driving in a run.


Daniel Brown led Pfeiffer going 3-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and three runs scored, while Ridenhour, Pugh and Ryan Brown were each 2-for-4.


The Cobras and Falcons complete the three game conference series Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
