Orlando, FL- With the first day of competition completed at the 2nd Annual Coker College Invitational at Orange County National, it was Valdosta State University who came out on top. Valdosta fired off a team total of 282, six under par. Valdosta is closely followed by Presbyterian College with a four under 284 and West Florida and Florida Southern, who are each tied for third with scores of two under par 286.


Leading the Blazers was Josh Tompkins with a three under 69, tying him for first place with Baxter Culler of USC-Upstate, Federico Damus of West Florida and Ben Karns of Presbyterian.


As for the Coker Cobras, they are in 17th place with a team score of 300. Setting the pace for the Cobras is senior Stephen Frisch, with a first round 73, one over par, tying him for 34th place. Fellow senior Blaine Rogers shot a 75 on the day, as did sophomore Keith Wallace. Freshmen Chris Marsh and Patrick Kirby shot 77 and 78 respectively.


The Coker Invitational continues tomorrow in its final round from Orange County National. Teams begin to tee off starting at 8:00 a.m.
