HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College men's golf team was recently named to the Golf Coaches Association of America Division II All-Academic Team. The Cobras were one of 125 teams recognized.
"I am very proud of my team for earning this award," said head coach Tommy Baker. "It is extremely difficult to balance the demands of athletics and academics and still perform at a high level. So, for these young men to achieve this recognition is a true testament of their dedication both on the golf course and in the classroom."
The team honored includes graduated seniors Jared Crane and Diego Polo; then-junior Jake Murphy; sophomores Josh Clay, Nolan Dorner and Matt Kreider; and freshmen Aaron Beebe, Luke Coates and Christopher Fuga.
The GCAA award caps off a winning season by Coker. Along with this honor, the Cobras won the Conference Carolinas championship, earned a berth into the NCAA regional, and had a pair of all-conference performers in Murphy and Crane and two academic all-conference selections in Polo and Kreider.
Coker College readies undergraduates for personal and professional success through a distinctive four-year program that emphasizes a practical application of the liberal arts as well as hands-on and discussion-based learning within and beyond the classroom. Coker is ranked among the "Best Colleges" in the South by U.S. News & World Report as well as The Princeton Review. Located in Hartsville, S.C., Coker is within two hours of the cultural, financial and recreational resources of Charlotte, Columbia, Charleston and Myrtle Beach.
