Sumter, S.C. – After falling to Limestone in the opening round of the 2009 Conference Carolinas Women’s Tennis Tournament, the Coker women started the day in the consolation round taking on Queens in their first match.

The Lady Cobras defeated the Queens Royals with ease, winning two of three doubles matches, before taking all of the singles matches for a 8-1 victory. Then came the big match of the day for Coker, as they faced Anderson University to determine fifth place.

Coker was unfortunate in their first few matches, as they quickly fell 4-2 with just three singles matches left, but the Lady Cobras were not ready to roll over and accept defeat. In the “best tennis performance I have ever seen,” said Coach Alvin Cheng, the final three Lady Cobras all three seniors, Cassidy Spencer, Lindsay Crighton and Ashley Pace won their singles matches in three sets and gave Coker the 5-4 win, while ending their college careers with the highest finish Coker women’s tennis has had in the school’s history.

With the wins in the consolation round the Lady Cobras finish the season with a record of 10-5, the best finish in school history.
