HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The No. 3 seed Catawba Indians plated 11 unanswered runs on their way to an 11-2 win over the No. 5 seed Newberry Wolves on Saturday (Apr. 25) at the 2015 South Atlantic Conference Softball Championship.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, Catawba posted five runs in the first, four in the second and two in the third to defeat the Wolves 11-2 in five innings.
Carley Tysinger (24-9) picked up the win. She went all five innings allowing just two runs on four hits with eight strikeouts.
Brittany Middleton (9-9) took the loss. She gave up five runs on six hits with a strikeout in an inning in the circle.
Taylor Adams and Emily Huneycutt drove in a combined five runs to lead the Indians at the plate. Adams was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs, while Huneycutt was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs.
For Newberry, Ann Dee Priest and Hailey Drew were each 1-for-3 with an RBI.
With the win Catawba advances to 2015 SAC Softball Championship game on Sunday (Apr. 26) at 1 p.m. Newberry moves to the elimination bracket where they will face the No. 2 seed Anderson at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
