HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Anderson’s Cailah Niles drove in four runs to lead the No. 2 seed Trojans to a 5-2 win over the No. 6 Lenoir-Rhyne Bears in day two of the 2015 South Atlantic Conference Softball Championship.
Niles belted a three-run homer in the top of second inning to cap off a four-run inning for Trojans and give them a 4-2 lead. The Bears cut the lead to just one, 4-3, with a run in the fourth, but another Anderson run in the sixth gave the Trojans the 5-3 win.
Lauren Rudesheim (15-6) picked up the complete game victory. She allowed three runs on five hits with nine strikeouts.
Maryann Hoskins (19-9) was tagged with the loss. She gave up five runs on three hits with nine strikeouts in seven innings of work.
Niles finished the game 1-for-1 with a home run and four RBIs, while Jessica Neidigh was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for the Trojans.
For Lenoir-Rhyne, Jordin Phillips drove in two runs, while Ashley Oliver was 1-for-3 with a home run, an RBI and a run scored. Brittany Coursen also had a pair of hits for the Bears.
With the win Anderson advances to play the loser of the game between the No. 1 seed Carson-Newman and the No. 5 seed Newberry at 5:30 p.m. Friday (Apr. 24). The loss eliminates Lenoir-Rhyne. They finish the season with a record of 32-19.
