FLORENCE, S.C. Francis Marion University will play host to the second-annual Gerald Griffin Baseball Classic (Peach Belt-CVAC Challenge), Friday through Sunday (Feb. 9-11) on FMU’s Cormell Field.


The three-day event will feature two teams from the Peach Belt Conference, three from the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference, and one team from the South Atlantic Conference. Daily admission is $3 for adults and $2 for students.


The schedule for Friday will have seventh-ranked Francis Marion University (2-1) playing St. Andrews Presbyterian College (1-1) at noon, Lenoir-Rhyne College (3-2) playing Coker College (1-4) at 3 p.m., and fifth-ranked Georgia College & State University (1-2) playing Mount Olive College (1-3) at 6 p.m.


The slate for Saturday has GC&SU vs. Coker at noon, Francis Marion vs. Mount Olive at 3 p.m., and Lenoir-Rhyne vs. St. Andrews at 6 p.m.  Sunday’s games will be Lenoir-Rhyne vs. Mount Olive at noon, GC&SU vs. St. Andrews at 3 p.m., and FMU vs. Coker at 6 p.m.


Gerald Griffin started the FMU baseball program in 1973 and posted a 655-433-1 mark in 28 season on the Patriot bench.  Griffin will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to Friday’s first contest.
