Misenheimer, NC---The Pfeiffer baseball team split a double-header with Coker in Conference Carolinas action Saturday afternoon. The Falcons (7-4 overall and 1-1 in the conference) took the first game 5-4 in 10 innings. Coker (4-6, 1-1) came back to take game two 3-2.
Will Davis singled in Josh Strickland in the bottom of the first to give Pfeiffer an early 1-0 lead.
Coker came back with two in the fourth and one in the sixth to take a 3-1 advantage.
Zack Pou led off the bottom of the sixth with a home run. Bryan Braxton and Will Davis followed with back to back doubles to tie the game at three.
Braxton singled in Strickland in the seventh to give the Falcons the lead at 4-3.
Coker got an unearned run off Pfeiffer starter Jonathan McDaniel in the eighth to tie the game. McDaniel gave up 4 runs( 2 earned) in 7 and 2/3 innings. Andrew Oliver came in to finish the eighth.
Will Davis got hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the tenth. Hayes Hinson followed with a double to move Davis to third. Kevin Oquendo then delivered the game winning hit to give Pfeiffer the win.
Oliver picked up the win for Pfeiffer after going 2 and 1/3 innings of hitless relief pitching. Oliver walked nobody and struck out five.
Coker came back in game two and jumped up early with wo runs in the second inning.
The Cobras added a single run in the fourth.
Coker starter Jesse Hatchell took a shut-out into the seventh when Pfeiffer finally got going offensively. Will Davis and Shawn Coke got on base to lead off the seventh and with one out Hunter Wyke drove them in. The Falcons had two on with two out but could no score again and los 3-2.
Ben Beard took the loss for Pfeiffer giving up three runs( 2 earned) in six innings of work.
The two teams will finish the series with a single game Sunday starting at 1:00 pm.
