AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State jumped out in front of Coker 6-1 in the first four innings and went on to an 8-4 non-conference victory Wednesday afternoon at Jaguar Field.

Sophomores Alex Sickman and Tony Baker, along with freshman Bryson Smith, collected a pair of hits for the Jaguars (7-6). Freshman Justin Roberts jacked a three-run homer in the fourth inning and Sickman drove in two runs. Kevin Owens scored a pair of runs.

Junior lefthander Ben Dukes (1-1) earned the win, surrendering just one hit and run in 4.0 innings of work with two strikeouts and a walk. Steven Voigt, Tyler Godwin, Chris Tyler and Jacob Watson all logged an inning of relief and sophomore Kyle Payne closed out the game in the ninth. The Jaguar relievers didn’t allow a hit in the final four frames and struck out four.

No player had more than one hit for the Cobras, who fell to 6-7. Coker starter Terry Thomas (0-1) took the loss, allowing five hits and three runs in 3.0 innings.

ASU opens their Peach Belt Conference schedule on the road this weekend, traveling to Columbus State to take on the Cougars in a three-game series. A single game is slated for Saturday, Feb. 23 at 2:00 p.m., with a doubleheader on the docket for Sunday at 12:30 p.m. Coker will host Erskine College in their second Conference Carolinas series of the season, starting Friday with a single game at 2:00 p.m., followed by a double-header on Saturday starting at 12:00 p.m.
