Hartsville, S.C. – With an 8-2 victory over the Coker Cobras on Sunday, St. Andrews Presbyterian College took home two out of three in the Conference Carolinas baseball series over the weekend. The loss drops the Cobras to 7-12 overall, and 2-7 in the conference, while the Knights improve to 6-11 overall and 2-7 in the conference.

The Knights got things started early with four runs in the top of the first, three of which came from three RBI triple from Eric Stone. The Cobras got on the board in the bottom of the third, thanks to an RBI single from Julio Gomez (Santa Fe, NM) that scored Ricky Deleandro (Mentor, OH).

St. Andrews put the game out of reach as they added three runs in the top of the fifth, with the help of an RBI double from Charles Weber, and RBIs from Stone and Jeremy Fisher. The Knights capped the game off with a RBI double from Vince Giunta in the ninth, but Coker did manage to post their second run of the game, with an RBI double from Kyle Walker.

Coker’s Chris Thomas (Bluffton, SC) (1-4) took the loss allowing seven runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings of work.

Earning the win was the Knights’ Kyle Cummings throwing 5.1 innings of relief work, while allowing one run on three hits with four strike outs.

Walker and Gomez led the Cobras at the plate, as they each had two hits with an RBI, while Karl Ankersen (Mt. Pleasant, SC), Anthony Chester (Simpsonville, SC) and Preston Ford (Cheraw, SC) were each 1-for-3.

For St. Andrews, Sam Williams was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, while Kyle Norris was 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Stone finished the game 1-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs and Giunta was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.

The Cobras return to the diamond on Tuesday, as they travel to Orangeburg, SC, to face Claflin University at 2:00 p.m., while St. Andrews also plays on Tuesday, traveling to Virginia State.
