Hartsville, SC- Coker College Head Baseball Coach, Dave Schmotzer, announced the signing of infielder Brian Luchsinger to a National Letter of Intent to play baseball for the Cobras for the 2007-2008 season.


Luchsinger is a native of Long Island, New York, where he was a 2005 graduate of Sachem East High School and three-time baseball letterman. While at Sachem East, Luchsinger led them to the league title, Suffolk County Title, Long Island Championship and New York State finals. Upon graduating he attended Division I Fairleigh Dickinson University for his freshman year, before transferring to Suffolk Community College for his sophomore season.


While at Suffolk he hit .343, while leading the Clippers to the junior college regional playoffs. This summer he is playing for the Long Island Kingsmen of the Long Island Federation of Amateur Baseball League.


Coach Schmotzer said, “We are excited to have Brian join the Coker family and we are looking forward to having him help us get back to championship form.”


Luchsinger joins a long list of former Suffolk Community College players to play for the Cobras including Ryan Schaeffer ’07, Michael Steinberg ’03, Brian Ponticello ’03, and Travis Trusnovec ’03.


The Cobras finished the 2007 season with a record of 20-31 overall, finishing in seventh place in the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference (CVAC).
