Hartsville, S.C. – The Coker Cobras used some clutch hitting and pitching to hold on to a 6-5 win over Millersville in non-conference collegiate baseball on Thursday afternoon. The Marauders looked to be on a come back with a pair of runs in the top of the ninth, but two big strike outs by BK Harfst (Arvada, CO) gave the Cobras the win.

Millersville got things started with a run in the first inning, but Coker answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning. The Marauders evened things at two, with another run in the second, but once again Coker answered with another two runs, taking the 4-2 lead. After Millersville scored their third run in the third and the Cobras again scored to keep a two run lead, Coker held the Marauders scoreless through the next five innings, scoring a run in the seventh along the way for a 6-3 lead. In the top of the ninth back-to-back RBI doubles from Cody Wile and Keith Spencer had the Marauders back in the game, but Harfst got Chris Edgar to go down swinging, while Miles Gallagher was sat down after watching strike three.

Michael Rogers (Florence, SC) (3-0) earned the win going two innings, allowing two runs on one hit with a strike out. Millersville’s Kyle Belanchik (1-2) took the loss, allowing five runs on eight hits with a strike out in 3.1 innings of work. Harfst (1) earned his first save of the season, allowing two runs on two hits with two strike outs in one inning on the mound.

Kyle Walker (Centralia, IL) and Brinley Griffin (Port St. John, FL) led the Cobras at the plate, as Walker had four hits, including a double with two runs scored and Griffin was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Matt Kearnes (Bay Shore, NY) and Kevin Schlange (Carson City, NV) each had two hits with a run scored, while Kearnes also drove in a pair of runs.

For Millersville, Wile was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored, while Edgar was 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Coker returns to action on Friday, as they host Clarion University in a non-conference double-header starting at 11:00 a.m.
