Hartsville, SC –  The Coker Cobras took on Bluefield College Sunday afternoon in a game that would turn in to an offensive brawl.  Coker managed 21 hits and Bluefield netted 13 hits, but Coker would lose the game 12-10. 

Bluefield started senior Mike Newton on the mound.  Newton went 3.1 innings surrendering six runs on 12 hits.  Newton also had a walk and a strikeout.  Left-handed junior Ethan Lewis pitched 4.1 innings in relief; grabbing his first win of the season, surrendering just two runs on six hits.  Lewis also notched five strikeouts.

Offensively Bluefield was led by junior Joe Gatewood who went 2-for-5 with two runs batted in.  Junior outfielder Jon-Michael Thruett also had two runs batted in, as he went 2-for-6.  Six different players had two hits for Bluefield.  After replacing sophomore Zac Goodyear (injury related), junior Cameron Hynes went 2-for-3, coming off the bench cold.

Coker struggled in the field committing seven errors.  Freshman righty Andrew Goot (Oldsmar, FL) surrendered six runs, on five hits, and one walk.  Goot went 2.1 innings on the hill. Eight out of the nine starters for the Cobras had at least one hit, while junior Dyson Coker (Turbeville, SC) had four hits.  Junior outfielder Rob Quattrock (Holtsville, NY) went 1-for-4, with a run batted in, two runs scored, and had a stellar defensive play in center field.

The Cobras’ next home game is Tuesday, February 22, against Newberry College at Tom J. New Field in Hartsville, SC.  The first pitch is slated for 2:30 p.m.
