HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker’s James Sweeney and Barton’s Brian Riesenberg had a pair of highlight reel performances between the goalposts on Monday night in their Conference Carolinas men’s soccer match. The match ended in a 2-2 draw with Sweeney making six saves and Riesenberg making eight saves, with both keepers making several extraordinary saves to keep things close.
Barton was first to strike on a header from Archer Bane with an assist from Trey Batey just four minutes into the match.
Coker netted the equalizer in the 16th minute when Chris Dixon (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) found the back of the net off a C.J. Telford (Oakville, Ontario) assist.
The Bulldogs regained the lead with a 25 yard blast from Erik Pajunk in the 21st minute, but it was Jordan Snell’s (Palm Bay, Fla.) goal for Coker with just 10 seconds left in the half that tied the match at two for good.
The second half was full of scoring opportunities for both teams, but both goalkeepers were on top of their game. Riesenberg had seven saves in the second half, while Sweeney (Huntingtown, Md.) had four saves between the second half and overtime.
The Cobras will return to the pitch on Saturday when they host the Limestone College Saints in a conference match at 4:00 p.m.
