Cobras Top Trojans 78-64
HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- The Coker women's basketball team beat the formally undefeated Trojans of Mount Olive on Saturday (Dec. 15) afternoon, 78-64 in a Conference Carolinas matchup. With the win the Cobras improve to 5-2 on the year, while the Trojans fall to 6-1.
The first half proved to be an even competition, as both teams exchanged points closely. The Cobras however, could not take the lead and went into the locker room down 35-30.
It was not until late in the second half that the Cobras were able to take their second lead of the game since the scoreboard read 2-0 in favor of the home team. A 12-0 offensive surge from the Cobras allowed them to take a 54-53 lead with just seven minutes remaining in the game.
From there the Cobras never looked back as the defense held the Trojan offense to only 11-points for the remaining seven minutes.
In her season debut, junior forward Autumn Lau dropped a game high 24-points to lead both teams in scoring. Alongside Lau was her sister Amber, who tallied 19-points and Angie Lawrence who contributed 16.
The Trojans were lead by forward Tamara Nesmith with 21-points, and Kirksten Mitchell who tallied 11. Also reaching double-digit scoring was Alyssa Leub with 10.
Coker has little time to celebrate the victory, with their next game coming on Sunday (Dec. 16) against the visiting Knights of St. Andrews. Tip-off is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start time.
