Cobras Defeat Newberry
NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Coker University acrobatics & tumbling team delivered a commanding performance Saturday afternoon, defeating Newberry 232.470–159.220 on the road.
The Cobras established control early, winning the Compulsory Event 33.200–21.350. Coker was highlighted by a 9.550 in Pyramid and a 9.400 in Toss, building an early double-digit advantage.
Coker continued its momentum in the Acro Event, sweeping all three heats to earn a 25.200–21.800 edge. An 8.600 in Heat 3 marked the team's highest acro score of the day and extended the overall lead to 58.400–43.150 at the halfway point.
In Pyramid, the Cobras posted the top score of the event with a 9.500 in Heat 3. Although Newberry narrowly claimed the event total, Coker maintained a comfortable lead entering the second half.
The Cobras regained full momentum in the Toss Event, winning 25.400–21.100 behind a 9.050 in Heat 1 and an 8.700 in Heat 3.
Coker sealed the meet in Tumbling, dominating the event 50.850–27.950. The Cobras recorded four scores of 9.400 or higher, including a 9.525 in Heat 6, a 9.475 in Heat 5, and a 9.400 in Heat 4. The strong tumbling performance extended the lead to 157.450–115.500 heading into the Team Event.
Coker closed the afternoon with a 75.020 in the Team Event to secure the 232.470–159.220 victory.
