HARTSVILLE, S.C.- Coker baseball recorded a doubleheader sweep of Chowan on Homecoming Saturday (Feb. 6). The Cobras shut out the Hawks 6-0 in game one and took game two by a score of 6-3.
The Cobras notched two runs in the second, two in the fourth, and two in the sixth innings to pull away from the visiting Hawks. The Cobras pounded out nine hits and were able to take advantage of five Chowan errors. Will Winslow finished the game 2-3 with a walk and one RBI. Michael Orlowski chipped in a 2-3 effort and scored two runs, while Ryan Wayne went 1-2 with two RBI and two runs scored. Clint Allen also went 2-3 and scored a run.
Dallas Baldwin (1-0) earned his first win of the season, tossing 4.1 innings scattering four hits. Baldwin also struck out six and issued four free passes. Will Sutton fired 2.2 perfect innings of relief punching out three.
Forrest Arnold (2-0) earned the win in game two, keeping the Hawks offense contained through 6.1 innings of work. The junior right-hander allowed three earned runs on nine hits while also firing nine strikeouts. Thomas Lopez, Michael Orlowski, Miguel Frias and AJ Strnad each recorded hits in the game. Frias whacked his first triple of the year while Lopez hit his first double of the season.
The Cobras are back at Tom J. New Field tomorrow (Feb. 7) when they complete the four-game set with Chowan. First pitch of game one is set for 12:00 p.m. Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free to all Coker faculty, staff and students.
