2016-2017: Shuey made 13 appearances including three starts during his freshman campaign. He finished the year with a 5.20 earned run average and a 4-1 record. In 36.1 innings, he allowed 22 runs, 21 earned on 37 hits. The right-hander also walked 12 and struck out 25.

High School: Shuey attended Oakleaf High School where he played baseball for the Knights. On the diamond, he was a 2016 first team all-conference selection at first base. He batted .340 while compiling a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage On the mound, he pitched 42 innings his senior season, posting a 2-2 record with a 2.96 ERA, striking out 43 batters and recording two saves. Off the field, he was on the honor roll with a 3.4 GPA.
