HARROGATE, Tenn. - The Coker University baseball team came up short in the opening game of their South Atlantic Conference road series to Lincoln Memorial on Friday (Apr 15) night by a score of 10-5.
The Cobras took the early lead in the first inning when Cory Listing scored on a throwing error by the LMU catcher to make it 1-0. Coker pushed across two more runs on a Phill Griffor RBI double to increase their lead to 3-0 after the top of the first. The Railsplitters responded with one in the bottom of the first, followed by two runs in the third and fifth to take a 5-3 lead heading into the top of the sixth.
Back-to-back one out singles in the top of the sixth set the table for the Cobras and Tripp Kimmel took advantage, singling into right field to score Cory Listing. Coker would tie things up on a wild pitch thrown by the LMU hurler, as Phill Griffor touched home to even the score at 5-5. The Railsplitter bats and bullpen would control the rest of the night. LMU posted one run in the sixth and seventh before putting a three spot on the board in the bottom of the eighth. The relief arms for Lincoln Memorial shut down the Cobra bats and they took the 10-5 win.
Reilly Hall and Phill Griffor led the Cobras with two hits each. Griffor drove in two runs, while Tripp Kimmel and Andrew Scudder each contributed an RBI. Cory Listing also reached on a hit and came around to score two runs in the losing effort.
Coker will wrap up their weekend series with Lincoln Memorial on Saturday with a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1pm, with live video and statistics available at www.cokercobras.com.
