Baseball Takes Game One of the Series
Coker wins game one on the road.
Emory, VA. – Coker took the road to face Emory and Henry in a South Atlantic Conference three-game series. Coker bounced on an early lead and ran with it throughout the game.
Coker jumped out of the gates early looking to show what they bring to the table as Kody Hanna with the swing of the bat homered in the top of the 1st scoring Nick Leonard, Cameron Ferrell, and Caleb McCants Coker went up 4-0. Ferrell came up again for the Cobras hitting a stinger up the middle scoring Adam Wilkerson. Hanna looking to do more damage homered again at the top of the 3rd putting the team up 6-3. Zack Wall found the outfield hit a single and advanced on the throw as he scored Jaylen Mack putting the team up 7-3. Wilkerson had a sacrifice bunt scoring Wall and adding to the lead 8-3. McCants doubled into the gap scoring Eli Hopkins 9-3. Ferrell reached an error and managed to score McCants making the score now 10-3. Leonard got in on the action hitting a single and scoring Ferrell and expanding the lead 11-3. The Wasp managed to score some runs back but at the top of the 4th Hopkins started the scoring up again with a double into the left-center scoring Wall putting the 12th run up the board for Coker. Hanna for the third time in the game found the grass on the other side of the fence scoring himself and Leonard making it 14-5. Donavan Frayer had his second home run of the season hitting one over the right field fence putting the team up 15-5. Mack took home on a wild pitch and put the Cobras up 16-5. Emory and Henry cut into the lead scoring four in the bottom of the 5th. Frayer scored on a wild pitch 17-9. Mack scored on an error putting the team up 18-9. McCants hits his first home run of the season at the top of the 8th as the Cobras go up 19-11. Ashby Vining pinched hit at the top of the 9th and homered over the left field fence. Wilkerson doubled into an opening in the outfield scoring Hopkins. Ferrell single into the center field scoring Wilkerson and putting the finishing touches on a 23-15 victory.
