Hartsville, SC- In the 50th meeting between the Coker and Francis Marion men’s basketball teams it was the Cobras who opened the season with a 62-47 victory on Wednesday night in collegiate basketball. The series now stands with FMU leading 39-11 overall, but for the next year the Cobras have bragging rights in the Pee Dee. Coker is now 1-0, while Francis Marion is 0-1.


The first half played just as most would expect as the Patriots and Cobras were dead locked at 25 going into the half, but then the Cobras three-point shooters got hot. As a team the Cobras were 11 for 20 from behind the arc, scoring 33 of their 62 points. Cobras hottest hand came from Ben Brim who as five for eight and finished the night with 21 points. Also scoring in double digits for Coker was Lukas Varga, who finished with 10 points, while Abram Ludd ended the night with nine points.


For the Patriots, Rodrick Burton had 13 points and three rebounds, while Dominic Bishop had 10 points. Raymond Dorsey finished the game with nine points and three rebounds.


Coker’s next game is on Friday, November 17, as they travel to Mount Olive College for the Pickle Classic Tournament. The Cobras will face CVAC foe Mount Olive at 6:0 p.m.
